For many international buyers, attending the Canton Fair is only one part of a business trip to Guangzhou.
You may spend one or two days meeting suppliers at the fair, then visit factories, showrooms, wholesale markets or existing suppliers in Guangzhou, Foshan and other nearby manufacturing cities.
Combining these visits can make your trip much more productive, but it also requires more planning than simply attending the exhibition.
Factory appointments may be in different cities. Meetings can run longer than expected. A supplier you meet at the Canton Fair may invite you to visit their factory the next day. And travel between industrial areas can take up a significant part of the day.
This guide explains how to combine the Canton Fair with factory and supplier visits efficiently.
Start With Your Canton Fair Dates
The 140th Canton Fair in Autumn 2026 is divided into three phases:
| Phase | Dates | Main Product Areas |
| Phase 1 | October 15–19, 2026 | Manufacturing, electronics, machinery, vehicles, lighting, hardware and related products |
| Phase 2 | October 23–27, 2026 | Housewares, building and decoration materials, sanitary ware, furniture and related products |
| Phase 3 | October 31–November 4, 2026 | Textiles, clothing, toys, personal care, medical products and other consumer goods |

The first step is to identify which phase is relevant to your products and how many days you actually need at the Canton Fair.
You do not necessarily need to spend every day of the phase inside the exhibition complex.
For example, you might spend the first day walking the relevant halls, use the second day for more focused supplier meetings, and reserve the following days for factory visits.
The right balance depends on whether you are mainly looking for new suppliers, meeting existing suppliers, or visiting China to evaluate factories before placing orders.
Should You Visit Factories Before or After the Canton Fair?
There is no single arrangement that works for every buyer.
Factory visits can be scheduled before, after or between Canton Fair phases, depending on your objectives.
Factory Visits Before the Fair
Visiting selected factories before the Canton Fair can be a smart option if you already have suppliers or a shortlist.
Many international buyers schedule factory visits after the fair, so the days immediately following each phase can be particularly busy for suppliers. Visiting beforehand may give you more time for factory tours and detailed discussions before the post-fair rush begins.
It can also help you understand the products, specifications and pricing in more depth before entering the exhibition. When you later visit the Canton Fair, you already have a useful reference point and can compare other suppliers more efficiently.
There can also be a timing advantage if you are ready to buy. If you are satisfied with a supplier’s products and pricing, placing an order before the fair may help you get into the production schedule earlier. After the Canton Fair, many suppliers receive new orders and production schedules can become busier.

Factory Visits After the Fair
For buyers looking for new suppliers, visiting factories after the Canton Fair is often a natural choice. After seeing and comparing products at the fair, you will have a clearer idea of which suppliers are worth visiting for a closer look and further discussions.
The main consideration is timing. Suppliers are often busy immediately after the fair, with many overseas buyers arranging factory visits at the same time. Some shortlisted suppliers may also be far apart or even located in different provinces, so it may not be practical to visit all of them during one trip.
Production schedules can also become busier as new orders come in after the fair, which may mean longer lead times for new orders.
Decide Which Suppliers Really Need a Factory Visit
Meeting a supplier at the Canton Fair does not automatically mean that you need to visit their factory. Before spending several hours travelling to a supplier, it is worth checking whether there is a realistic basis for doing business together.
Start with the basics:
- Product range and quality
- Pricing and MOQ
- Production capacity
- Customization requirements
- Required certifications
- Payment terms
- Export capability
- Communication and responsiveness
From your conversations with the salesperson, you can also get a sense of whether your order fits the type of customer they normally serve — and whether they seem capable of providing the level of service you expect.
Before arranging a visit, ask for recent photos or videos of the actual factory or showroom. Online profiles and promotional materials do not always reflect the real size, condition or facilities of a supplier.

A few practical checks can also save you an unnecessary trip:
Order size and MOQ. Make sure your expected order is suitable for the supplier. A small factory may not be able to handle a large project, while another supplier may have an MOQ well above what you need.
Certification requirements. If products must meet standards in your destination country, confirm this before visiting. For example, an Australian buyer sourcing windows, sanitary products or other regulated products should first check whether the supplier can provide the relevant Australian-standard certification or documentation.
Export documentation. Some products or materials may require specific inspection, phytosanitary or other export documentation. This can be particularly important when sourcing furniture and wood-related products. A factory may make an excellent product but still not be suitable if it cannot provide the documents required for your shipment.
Payment terms. If your orders require a particular payment method, confirm that the supplier can accept it. For example, buyers who need to pay by Letter of Credit (L/C) may find that some smaller suppliers are unable or unwilling to work on those terms.
Local distribution agreements. Ask whether the supplier already has an exclusive distributor or agent in your country or region. In some cases, they may not be able to sell directly to you.
These checks do not replace a factory visit. They simply help make sure that the factories you choose to visit are genuinely worth your time.
Understand Where the Factories Are Located
One common planning mistake is assuming that suppliers exhibiting at the Canton Fair are located in or around Guangzhou.
In reality, exhibitors come from manufacturing regions across China. Many suppliers from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and other provinces travel to Guangzhou specifically for the fair. Visiting their factories may require a separate trip — a flight from Guangzhou to Zhejiang takes around two hours, while reaching parts of Shandong can take around three hours by air.
Even within the Pearl River Delta, distances can be easy to underestimate. Guangzhou and Foshan together cover a large area, and driving from a Guangzhou hotel to a factory in an outer district of Foshan can easily take one to two hours. A factory visit in Shenzhen is farther again and may take a significant part of the day just for the round trip.
Before confirming your factory-visit schedule, always check the actual factory location — not just the city or province shown on the supplier’s profile.
Guangzhou
Guangzhou has supplier offices, showrooms, wholesale markets and manufacturing areas covering many different industries.
It is also a convenient base for reaching other cities in the Pearl River Delta.
Foshan
Foshan is particularly important for buyers sourcing products such as:
- Furniture
- Tiles
- Sanitary ware
- Building materials
- Doors and windows
- Interior products
- Home-related products
Many international buyers attending the Canton Fair add one or more Foshan days to their itinerary.
Dongguan
Dongguan has a large manufacturing base covering furniture, industrial products, electronics, components and many other categories.
If several of your suppliers are based there, it usually makes sense to organize them into a dedicated Dongguan day.
Zhongshan and Guzhen

Zhongshan is another important manufacturing city, while Guzhen is especially well known for lighting products.
Buyers sourcing lighting often combine Guangzhou or Canton Fair days with supplier and showroom visits in Guzhen.
Shenzhen and Other Cities
Depending on your product category, suppliers may also be located in Shenzhen or other cities around the Pearl River Delta.
The important point is simple:
“Factories in Guangdong” does not mean that all of your suppliers are close to each other.
Always check the actual factory address before building your itinerary.
Group Factory Visits by Location
Once you have your supplier shortlist, organize the visits geographically.
This is one of the easiest ways to make a business trip more efficient.

For example, if you have three suppliers in Foshan and another supplier in Dongguan, it will usually be better to keep the Foshan suppliers together rather than travelling between Foshan and Dongguan during the same day.
A practical itinerary might look like:
- One day for Foshan factories
- One day for Dongguan suppliers
- One day for Zhongshan or Guzhen
- One day for Guangzhou meetings or markets
Within each city, suppliers should also be grouped by district whenever possible.
A company may describe its location simply as “Foshan,” but Foshan itself covers a large area. Two factories in different districts may still require substantial travelling time between appointments.
Before confirming your schedule, collect the exact addresses and check how the locations fit together.
Where Should You Stay?
Your hotel location should reflect the main purpose of each part of the trip.
Staying Near the Canton Fair Complex
If your first few days are focused almost entirely on the exhibition, staying near the Canton Fair Complex can make those days easier.
You reduce the time spent travelling to and from the fair and can start each morning closer to the exhibition.
In this case, you can choose hotels in Pazhou area.
Staying in Central Guangzhou
Central Guangzhou can be a good base if your trip combines the Canton Fair with supplier visits, business meetings and day trips to nearby cities.
Many international business visitors choose to stay around Zhujiang New Town / Tianhe, or the Baiyun Hotel and Huanshi Road area in Yuexiu. Both areas offer a practical balance between access to the Canton Fair, business districts and routes to suppliers around Guangzhou and nearby cities.
They are also convenient for the time outside your business schedule, with a wide choice of restaurants, shopping malls, cafés and other amenities nearby.
If your appointments are spread across different areas rather than concentrated in one city, staying in central Guangzhou can be more practical than changing hotels frequently.
Staying in Foshan
If several consecutive days are focused on Foshan factories, furniture markets or building-material suppliers, staying in Foshan can save a considerable amount of daily travel time.

Many international business visitors choose to stay around Zumiao in Chancheng, one of Foshan’s main central areas. It provides convenient access to many furniture and building-material sourcing areas while still offering plenty of restaurants, shopping malls, cafés and bars nearby.
For example, if your first two days are at the Canton Fair and the next three days are focused on Foshan, moving to a Foshan hotel for the second part of the trip may be more practical than returning to Guangzhou every evening.
The same principle applies to other cities when you have several consecutive days of appointments in the same area.
Plan Your Transport Before the Trip
Transportation for a Canton Fair + factory visit itinerary is different from a simple hotel-to-exhibition transfer.
Factory days often involve:
- Hotel pickup
- Several supplier locations
- Waiting during meetings
- Industrial areas outside city centers
- Travel between districts or cities
- Schedule changes during the day
- Return to the hotel after the final visit
For individual point-to-point journeys, taxis or ride-hailing services may be perfectly suitable.
But when you have several supplier appointments in one day, arranging one car and driver for the main factory-visit days can make the itinerary easier to manage.

The vehicle can remain available between appointments instead of requiring you to arrange another car after every meeting.
This can also be helpful when a meeting runs late, a supplier changes the meeting location or you decide to add another stop.
For multi-day business visits, using the same driver throughout the trip when possible can also reduce the need to explain the itinerary again each morning.

Common Planning Mistakes
A few simple mistakes can make Canton Fair + factory trips much more tiring than necessary.
Trying to Visit Too Many Factories in One Day
More visits do not necessarily mean a more productive trip. Give yourself enough time for meaningful discussions.
Assuming Every “Factory” Is an Actual Factory
Some suppliers present themselves as manufacturers but are actually trading companies working with partner factories. You may arrive expecting to see production, only to find an office or showroom, so confirm in advance that you will be visiting the actual production facility.
Scheduling Suppliers in Different Cities on the Same Day
Check the actual addresses before confirming appointments. Grouping suppliers geographically can save a large amount of unnecessary travel.
Not Confirming the Exact Factory Address
Ask for the full address, preferably in Chinese, best to ask for a location pin, together with a local contact number.
Leaving Factory-Day Transport Until the Last Minute
The Canton Fair is one of the busiest business-travel periods in Guangzhou.
If you already know your factory-visit dates, it is better to arrange your main transportation before arriving rather than trying to organize everything on the morning of the visit.
Need a Car and Driver for Your Canton Fair + Factory Trip?
If your business trip includes the Canton Fair together with factory, supplier or market visits in Guangzhou, Foshan or nearby cities, Guangzhou Drivers can arrange transportation around your itinerary.
